Gamel coming out of his slump

Matt Gamel seems to be finding life at the plate after a very long slump since returning to the Sounds in late July.  He lost about 50 points on his batting average but is starting to recover.

He is now 14-for-40 (.350) over his last ten games, slugging a three-run blast over the fence last night to raise his RBI season total to 43.  His play on the field has also been rock solid.  You can tell his confidence is much higher defensively now than when he started at the hot-box in April.

He is much more effective at the plate when he is patient and works the count. He is not striking out as much as was during his slump. This is a good sign for Sound’s fans.

With 22 games remaining on the schedule, the Sounds play 9 more home games and 13 away games. If the first-place Sounds are going to win the American North division they will certainly need Gamel’s bat in the home stretch. Nashville has a .582 winning percentage at home this year and a .483 percentage away.

Here’s the video of Gamel’s three-run blast on 7.16.
