Nashville wins 6-5 vs Isotopes with slugfest

August 4, 2009

The Nashville Sounds (59-52) held on today to beat the Albuquerque Isotopes (61-50) at Greer Stadium by a score of 6-5.  Nashville finally brought out some heavy lumber to notch the series finale as homers were hit by three Sound’s players: Koshansky (18), Heether (12), and Bourgeois (2).

Tim Dillard started for Nashville but was roughed up in 6 1/3rd innings, yielding five runs on 10 hits.  He left the game leading 4-3 but the runners on base were his responsibility. Reliever Dave Johnson (W, 3-1) yielded a bases loaded double and the score was 5-4 Isotopes after six. Jesus Colome pitched two innings of relief to earn his second save.

Newcomer Corey Patterson was 3-for-4 at the plate, scored a run, doubled (2), and walked.  Mat Gamel hit the ball hard but went 0-for-3. Brendan Katin scratched out a double going 1-for-4, striking out twice; including fanning with bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th.

Angel Salome’s sacrifice fly to left in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the game-winning RBI, scoring Corey Patterson.
