It was a long streak. The Nashville Sounds (58-52) had been in first place in the American North division of the Pacific Coast League since May 14th.  With their 3-1 loss last night to the Isotopes the Sounds are a half-game behind Memphis.

Nashville has been on a brutal slide downward since the all-star break. They are just 5-10 in their past fifteen games. They were competitive in eleven of those games. Their current woes are clearly a result of very poor offensive production.

In the past several weeks we have seen several players experience a real slide in their batting. Adam Heether (.290) has seen his average slide by over 35 points.  Brendan Katin is now batting just .249 after hovering close to .280 at his peek.

The worst fall has been from the bat of Mat Gamel. When he went up to the Brewers on May 14th he was batting a torrid .336.  He was recalled to Nashville on 7/21 and now sports an average of just .278. The lefty is hitting  just .119 (5-for-42) in 13 games since rejoining Nashville.
