Nashville loses in last at-bat to Iowa

July 18, 2009

Lindsay Gulin must be frustrated. He pitched one of his finest performances of the year on the road tonight as he only yielded three hits in 7.0 innings, allowing just one run, but failed to earn the victory even though the Sounds were up 1-0 after seven innings.

Nashville plated their first run in the top of the 1st on an Angel Salome RBI single of Escobar. 1-0 Sounds. Both starting pitchers, Gulin for Nashville, and Fossum for Iowa then turned in stellar work for the next several innings.

The Cubs tied the game 1-1 in the 8th. Dave Johnson came in relief for Gulin and would eventually yield the game-winning run in the 2-0 loss for the Sounds. An Aaron Miles double (20 in the 8th plated the tying run.

Iowa would gain the win in their last at-bat in the 9th. John-Ford Griffin doubled (15) to lead off and then Steve Clevenger (below) knocked him home for the win.
