Cody earns his 4th win as Sounds beat I-Cubs 4-1
Chris Cody (W, 4-4) pitched brilliantly tonight on the road against the Iowa Cubs (47-45) to propel the Nashville Sounds (52-40) to victory in the second game of a four-game road series with the I-Cubs. The Sound’s southpaw went seven innings, yielding seven hits on only one run, striking out six, while walking just one to earn the victory. Jose Ascanio (2-2) was tagged with the loss for Iowa allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits.
R.J. Swindle pitched two stellar innings of relief to earn his second save of the year.
Angel Salome and Cole Gillespie provided the fireworks from the plate for Nashville. Salome was 3-for-4, with a run scored and an RBI, while Gillespie was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. The Sounds were outhit nine to eight.
An RBI single by Salome – batting cleanup – in the first inning plated Bourgeois who had reached first leading off with a throwing error by the Cub’s shortstop. 1-0 Sounds.
Adam Heether led off the bottom of the second for the Sounds with his 16th double of the season. Gillespie singled him home one out later to make it 2-0 Sounds.
John-Ford Griffin’s 14th double in the 4th inning, followed one batter later by a Bobby Scales RBI single resulted in Iowa’s only run of the game 2-1 Sounds.
A sacrifice-fly by Brendan Katin, and an RBI single by Gillespie in the sixth inning gave Nashville some breathing room for a 4-1 win.
