Home Run Derby and All-Star Game gives Sound’s team three days off

allstars09.jpgThe Nashville Sounds announced the following today:

The Sounds take the next three days off during the Triple-A All-Star break before resuming their schedule on Thursday evening in Des Moines, Iowa.

Sounds outfielder Brendan Katin, will compete in the American Family Insurance All-Star Home Run Derby scheduled for Monday, July 13 at 9 p.m. CT at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon.

The All-Star Home Run Derby is being held in conjunction with the 2009 Cricket Wireless Triple-A All-Star Game, a match-up between the top players from the Pacific Coast League and International League that will take place at PGE Park in Portland, OR. The 9:00 p.m. CT game will air on ESPN2 and Sports Radio 560 AM.

Shortstop Alcides Escobar, left-handed pitcher R.J. Swindle, and outfielder Brendan Katin will be representing the Sounds.

ATOBG Notes:

Katin: This is the 26 year-old Fort Myers, Fla. native’s third All-Star appearance at the Triple-A level in his five-year professional career.

Escobar: The 2009 All-Star honor is his 4th in six professional seasons. He played in last year’s Southern League All-Star Game. Alcides was also recently named to the MLB All-Star Futures Game, to be held in St. Louis on Sunday, July 12th.

R.J. Swindle, 25, will make his first career All-Star appearance. The lefty has posted impressive numbers against PCL batters this season: 2-1 with a 0.79 ERA, plus one save in 23 outings for Nashville. PCL batters are hitting only .164 against the southpaw.
