Dillard gets ninth win to lead PCL in 5-3 win over Round Rock

Nashville’s Tim Dillard (W,9-3, 3.91 ERA) won his PCL leading ninth victory tonight as the Sounds defeated the Round Rock Express by a score of 5-3 before a crowd of 7.617 fans at Greer Stadium. The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up eleven hits on three runs, (3 earned), walking three and striking out three.  Reliever Ryan Houston worked a perfect ninth to earn his fifth save and preserve the win for Dillard. The Sounds are now 49-38 on the year.

Game summary:

Round Rock opened the game by scoring a run in the first inning on the strength of a throwing error by Dillard that allowed Abercrombie to advance from 1st to 3rd.  1-0 Express. But Brendan Katin’s 24th double of the year scored Escobar, who had walked earlier, to even the score in the bottom of the 1st. 1-1 tie.

Dillard helped his own cause in the bottom of the 2nd. With two out and Gillespie on third, Dillard hit an RBI-single to center. 2-1 Sounds.

A Bogusevic ground out in the 3rd plated Abercrombie who had doubled earlier.  2-2 tie.  Nashville came right back in the bottom of the 3rd. Koshansky’s 13th double plated teammate Iribarren to make it 3-2 Sounds. Heether then grounded out to  score Katin to give the Sounds a two run lead, 4-2 Sounds.

Chris Johnson’s lead-off home run (4) in the sixth made it a one run game, 4-3 Sounds. Nashville was 22-2 when leading after six at home this year. Newcomer Freddy Parejo led-off with a bunt-single in the 7th. Two errors by Express pitcher Geoff Geary int he same inning would result in the 5th run for the Sounds, 5-3. Parejo was 2-for-2 and scored a run.

The Sounds are 41-2 when leading after the 7th. Make that 42-2 now. Relievers Swindle and Houston pitched brilliantly in the last 2.1 innings to preserve the win.
