Sounds win in extra-innings against Memphis

Erick Almonte hit tonight's game-winning RBI in a pinch-hit role.

The Nashville Sounds (37-26) extended their win-streak to six games tonight against the Memphis Redbirds (30-32) but it took extra-innings (4-3 in 10) to get the job done. Nashville is by far the hottest team in the PCL, winning 8 of their last 10 games, and six straight.

Tim Dillard (7-3) pitched superbly but did not figure in the decision. Dillard went 6.1 innings, yielded 7 hits, 1 run (earned), walked three, struck-out three, one HR.

Closer Ryan Houston (W, 3-1) earned the victory going two innings (9th and 10th), surrendering merely one hit and no runs. He fanned three batters.

Memphis came from behind in the 8th to tie the score 3-3 which was the score after nine innings.

Game summary

Nashville took the early lead 1-0 after Brendan Katin smacked his 14th home run to right field in the bottom of the second.

Shane Robinson’s lead-off solo homer (1) in the third for Memphis made the score 1-1. Nashville came back in the bottom of the 3rd and plated another runner to take the lead again 2-1.  Hernan Iribarren’s RBI single scored Escobar who had previously doubled (17).

Iribarren’s RBI ground out in the 5th plated Nashville’s third run to make the score 3-1 Sounds.

Nashville took the two run lead into the 8th when Memphis tied the game again. With one out Solano singled.  Two miscues by Sound’s pitcher Dave Johnson – a wild pitch and a balk – placed runners on 2nd and 3rd – with two outs. Shane Robinson then singled to center scoring both runners to tie the game 3-3. That was the score as the teams completed nine innings of ball.

The winning run was plated in the bottom of the tenth for Nashville. Iribarren led off with a walk. Koshansky then singled moving Iribarren to 3rd.  With one out Erick Almonte pinched hit for Ryan Houston. He smacked the game-winning RBI single to 1B scoring Iribarren for the win. Sounds 4-3. Almonte is now 8-for-18 in pinch-hit situations.
