Escobar and Katin propel Sounds to 7-4 win over Omaha

Alcides Escobar continued his sizzling series performance against Omaha again today to help propel Nashville (34-26) to a 7-4 victory over the Omaha Royals (24-35). Brendan Katin’s two-run homer (13) in the 8th provided the winning hit.

Nashville’s Chris Narveson (W, 3-3) earned the victory, pitching brilliantly,  going 3.2 innings, yielding just one hit and no runs, while striking out six batters. Chase Wright started and went 5.1 innings, yielding 12 hits and 4 runs (all earned), no walks, one SO, and 2 HRs. Omaha’s reliever, Hamulack (L, 2-2) was pegged with his second loss of the season, pitching inthe 8th and 9th innings.

Alcides Escobar is the Royals series MVP.

Game summary:

Scott Thorman’s solo home run (9) in the 2nd inning gave Omaha an early 1-0 lead.

In the 3rd Nashville’s Escobar hit a triple (3) with one out scoring Jason Bourgeois. 1-1 tie.  Joe Koshansky’s two out single scored Escobar from third.  2-1 Sounds.

Brian Buchanan’s two-out double (5) in the bottom of the 3rd scored his teammate Hulett to even the score 2-2.

Both teams kept pace and scored two runs each in their respective fifth inning. Bourgeois led off with a single and Escobar slammed his 3rd home run to right field to make it 4-2 Sounds.

Not to be outdone, Brian Buchanan’s own two-out two-run homer (3) to left tied it up 4-4 after five.

Joe Koshansky opened the 8th with a double (7) to center. Brendan Katin followed with a two-run blast (13) to right making it 6-4. Corporan’s sac-fly added an insurance run later.  7-4 Sound’s win.

The Sounds banged out 13 hits, as did Omaha. Michael Garciaparra earned a start in left field as slumping Cole Gillespie sat the bench.  Both team played errorless ball.

Bourgeois and Escobar were red hot in the Omaha seriesBourgeois went 8 for 18, 2 3B, 6 R, RBI, 2 SB. Escobar was even hotter:  9 for 16, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R, 2 SAC.
