Who is the May MVP for the Nashville Sounds?

The Nashville Sounds were 17-14 in the month of May, 15 of those were home games. We awarded Sound’s MVPs in 28 of those games.

Katin won the award in seven different single games in May.  The second closest was Mike Burns. Nashville pitchers combined for a total of nine MVP-games.  Two players tied for third with two MVP-games: Jason Bourgeois and Joe Koshasnky.

Katin started out batting .268 in May, and finished batting .293 – raising his batting average 25 points.

Here are the games Brendan Katin won the MVP of the Game (for May) and why:

May 8 – Sounds lose 6-5 to Omaha.

Katin was 3 for 5, 2 doubles, and 3 RBIs (batting .257 at the time)

May 19 – Sounds win 5-4 over 51s

Katin went 2 for 3, 2 RBIs, hit the game-winning RBI

May 21 – Sounds lose 6-4 to Portland

Katin went 2 for 4, a double and 2 RBIs.

May 23 – Sounds lose to Portland 6-4

Katin – was 2 for 5, 1 run, 1 triple, 1 home run, 2 RBIs

May 26 – Sounds lose to Tacoma 10-7

Katin was 3 for 5, 2 runs, 1 home run, 2 RBIs

May 30 – Sounds win 6-2 over Omaha

Katin went 2 for 3, 2 runs, 2 home runs, 2 RBIs

May 31 – Sounds win 8-4 over Omaha

Katin was 3 for 4, 3 runs, two home runs, 5 RBIs


In the seven games Katin was MVP he:

  • Went 17 for 29 at the plate (.586)
  • Scored 8 runs
  • Hit 3 doubles
  • Hit 1 triple
  • Slammed 6 home runs
  • Knocked in 18 runners

Katin snapped a season-best 12-game hitting streak on Friday (28th),  the 2nd-longest streak by a Nashville player this season. During his streak, Katin batted .383 (20-for-52) with five home runs and 17 RBIs, including homering in four of six contests and producing an extra-base hit in six of seven.
