The Nashville Sounds (26-23) limped back into Greer Stadium last night after a lackluster road performance (3-5) and continued their limping, perhaps stalling to a crawl.  The Omaha Royals (22-26) continue their 2009 domination of Nashville (6-3). The Sounds still retain a half-game lead in the American North because second place Memphis lost again.

Lenny DiNardo (4-1) notched his fourth victory of the season pitching very well (6ip, 5 hits, 2 runs).  Nashville’s Chase Wright (3-5) took the loss.

Nashville only had six runners in scoring position all night, managing to plate on of those runners. It was evidence that the game was never even competitive for the Sounds. It just seems the team is playing with a lack of heart and spirit right now.  No one player is stepping up to be the leader.

In typical fashion when the Sounds lose this year, they allow the opponent a big inning early. Given the opportunity, the O-Royals obliged tonight by plating three runs in the second inning.  All three runs were scored after two outs and basically by a combination of singles and walks. 3-0 O-Royals.

Joe Koshansky’s solo shot (10th) to right in the fourth was but a dim murmur that the Sounds would not just roll over and die tonight.

Omaha scored four more times in the game by plating solo runs in each of the 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th innings. The run in the 5th after two outs. The run in the 6th by a combination of two walks, a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch.

Nashville’s second run in the sixth inning was hardly earned as Escobar reached on a fielding error that allowed him to reach third. Three straight singles in the 7th culminating with a Corporan RBI single plated Nashville’s last and third run.

7-3 O-Royals.
