Adam Heether went 2 for 3, and hit two HRs today

After the first inning of today’s game (1:30pm CST) the Nashville Sounds (26-21) found themselves deeply in the hole again (three runs) to the Tacoma Rainers (25-21), for the third straight game. Having already lost to the Rainers 12-1 and 10-7, it seemed the Sounds were on the way to another bad loss. In fact, Nashville was down 6-2 after the seventh innning today. Conisdering the Sounds have only won 1 of 17 games trailing after seven, there was good reason for concern of a third loss in a row.

Thanks to the bat of Adam Heether today, Nashville came from behind by four runs and won by a margin of two. Heether slammed two home runs today (in the 8th and 9th innings), knocking in six runs, to put the Sounds back in the victory column. Heether was 2 for 3 today, scored two runs, and knocked in six.

Game summary

The Rainers truck first and hard in the first. With two outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd, Brad Nelson (former-Sound) hit a two-run RBI single.  A later RBI-double by Morse made the score 3-0 Rainers after one.

Nashville’s first run came in the second with one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. Corporan hit an infield single to first scoring Heether who had walked.  3-1 Rainers.

With a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 5th, the Rainers plated two more runners.  5-1 Rainers. Heether’s six inning sac-fly gave Nashville their second run.  5-2 Rainers.  Tacoma scored again in their half of the sixth making it 6-2 Rainers after six.

Joe Koshansky doubled (6) Iribarren home to start the sixth. 6-3. Then a one-out two-run homer (2) by Heether in the 8th made the score 6-5. Could the Sounds tie it up and force extra innings?  The odds were not good.  But tell that to Heether.

With two runners on, and two outs, Adam Heether slammed a three-run homer (3) to left. It was his sixth RBI of the day and the Sounds now led 8-6. Reliever Chris Smith relieved Dave Johnson (2-0) in the ninth, and earned his ninth save.  Johnson won his second game of 2009.

Nashville had another strong-hit campaign for the day with 12 hits. The Sounds continued playing poor defensively, committing two errors (Swindle and Escobar).
