Chase Wright won today. He is now 3-4.

The Nashville Sounds (25-19) came from behind (four runs) to defeat the Portland Beavers (22-22) to win today and split the four-game series with the Beavers. It was the biggest come-from-behind win this year, in the 8-6 win.

The win keeps Nashville in first place in the American North (PCL), one game ahead of Memphis. The Sounds have the best record (.568) in the American Division of the PCL.

Starter Chase Wright (3-4) earned the victory even though he gave up four runs in the first inning, putting the Sounds in a 4-0 deficit to fight back from. And fight back they did. Nashville’s Chris Smith earned his 9th save. Beaver’s pitcher Britton, in relief, took the loss (1-1). Wright pitched five innings, yielded six hits, 4 runs (0 earned), walked one.

The Sounds knocked out 15 hits today (six extra bases) and committed three errors (Escobar, Gillespie and Bourgeois). Brendan Katin hit his 5th home run and Joe Koshansky his 9th.

Alcides Escobar hit tonight’s game-winning RBIs (runs #6 and #7) in the four-run sixth. He went 3 for 5 today, tripled, scored a run, and knocked in 2 runs.  He was 8 for 19 for the series; 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 runs, 2 RBI, 2 SB. He is our series MVP as well. Escobar’s season average is now up to a respectable .280.

Game summary

The game started in horrible fashion for the Sounds. The Beavers scored four times in their half of the first inning. Dowdy reached on an error by Escobar followed by a Stansberry single. Two runners on, no outs. One out later Email Brown walked to load the bases. Banks then hit a sac-fly scoring Dowdy.  1-0 Beavers. Two outs.

Huffman then singled to right scoring Stansberry. 2-0, two outs. Eliezer Alfonso then doubled two more Beavers home and the score was 4-0 Beavers. Ouch.

Chase Wright then settled down and did not yield another run the five full innings he pitched.  This allowed Nashville to chip away at the four-run deficit.

The Sounds made it 4-1 in the third after Bourgeois knocked in Carlos Corporan who doubled (3) to lead-off.  4-1, Beavers.

Brendan Katin led-off the fourth with a solo shot (5) to left [listen to call]. 4-2 now. Back-to-back doubles by Gillespie and Iribarren made the score 4-3 Beavers.
