Gamel hits a 3-run homer for Milwaukee tonight

May 18, 2009

Gamel, here batting for the Sounds before he was called up the Brewers.

The Nashville Sounds recently lost their starting third baseman, Mat Gamel, when he was called up to the Milwaukee Brewers (May 14th). It has been suggested by many people that he would only stay up through the 24th so he could be used as a pinch hitter during inter-league series play. That may all change . . . .

Gamel got the nod to start the game tonight playing third base. He slammed a third inning three-run home run to give the Brewers a 4-0 lead against the Cardinals tonight. He is 1 for 3 as they go into the 7th inning. Unfortunately his arm has also cost the Brewers a throwing error.

It will be interesting to see if Milwaukee keeps him in the line-up as a fielder with his sketchy glove-play. But what a start!

Watch a video of his home run from the MLB web site.

he had a throwing error, but also had a highlight reel diving play at 3rd that I’ve already seen twice on ESPN tonight
