Mike Burns wins sixth game.

The reliever who would become a starter, Mike Burns, is still perfect on the season, increasing his record to 6-0 as the Sounds defeat the Las Vegas 51s again by a score of 5-1 at Greer Stadium today. Nashville – who have won 7 of their last 8 – is now 21-16 and still in first place in the American North (PCL). Las Vegas falls to 14-22.

Burns pitched 6.2 innings, yielding just one run (earned), walked two and struck out three. His ERA now is down to 2.15.  Though he struggled a little in the early going, Mike still had good enough to post the victory. Burns was relieved by Swindle and Houston, who pitched 2.1 innings of no-hit ball. Mills (0-5) for the 51s suffered his fifth loss of the season.

Game summary

Las Vegas struck first in their half of the second inning on an RBI single by Sanchez, scoring Matthews who had walked. 1-0 51s.

Brendan Katin hits his 2nd home run today.

Nashville came back to take the lead finally in the fifth inning, never looking back after.  Angel Salome singled to lead off the fifth. Iribarren reached first base on a bunt force out. Bourgeois then singled to right, giving the Sounds runners on 1st and 3rd.  The bases were then loaded when Cole Gillespie walked.  One out later Escobar hit an infield single, scoring Iribarren.  1-1 tie. With Heether batting, Bourgeois scored when pitcher Mills balked. The Sounds were now in the lead 2-1.

The Sounds scored three insurance runs in the seventh. Gwynn singled to right with one out. Disaster then struck for Las Vegas. Gwynn scored on a pass ball by Kyle Phillips combined with a throwing error by Phillips and a throwing error by center fielder Coats.  3-1 Sounds.

After Escobar grounded out, Heether doubled (2) to center and Brendan Katin (DH) blasted a two-run home run (2) over left field. That made it 5-1, the final score.
