Cole Gillespie improving much in past week

Gillespie hit a solo home run last night (16-May) against the 51s.

On May 10th I wrote that Cole Gillespie’s performance is not on par with Triple-A ball. After a pathetic 1 for 16 against Omaha on the road (May 8-11), Gillespie has turned it on offensively since beginning the recent home stand, starting with Reno.

His weak start – first 14 games

He was batting just .132 with 38 plate appearances, struck out 8 times, had just 6 hits, and 2 RBIs.

His recent surge – last eight games

He has had 23 plate appearances, struck out 7 times, 8 hits, 3 RBIs and is now batting .230 overall. He is currently enjoying a five game hitting-streak (8-15, .533).

I’ve also noticed he is hustling more too.  He made a terrific 8th inning head-first diving catch last night (16-May) that electrified the crowd.
