Key Sound’s highlights going into road series against Omaha

May 8, 2009

The Nashville Sounds (15-12) begin their second 2009 series against the Omaha Royals (14-12) tonight at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. They are 1-2 against the Royals so far, and 177-178 overall.

Sound’s LHP Chase Wright (1-3, 5.74) must feel a little like the red-headed-step-child though when it comes to the Sound’s providing offensive fire-power for him when he pitches in 2009. To date, in 19 2/3rds innings pitched for Nashville in 2009, the Sounds have produced ZERO runs.  Zip. Nada. None. Thus, Wright’s record has suffered (1-3).

The Sounds continue to play superb baseball on the road for 2009. They enjoy a league-leading 9-3 road record in the PCL.

Omaha and Nashville face-off in a four-game set tonight in Nebraska.

Three Sound’s hitters love to hit left-handed pitchers, and will face a lefty tonight in Lenny DiNardo (1-1, 3.68). Escobar, Gamel and Gwynn are all hitting above .400 when batting against LHP’s. Tony Gwynn is hitting .450 (9 for 20).

Another area of offensive production the Sounds lead the PCL league in is the highest team-batting average with runners in scoring position (RISP). Nashville is tops in the PCL with a .311 mark. Iribarren’s .500 clip leads all Nashville players.

Lastly, when the Sounds are leading after seven innings in 2009, they are a crisp 14-0. On the flip-side, they are 0-9 when trailing after seven.

Tonight’s opening game series starts at 7:05 CST.
