Omaha’s Hochevar pitches 2-hit gem, defeat Sounds 8-0
Omaha-ace Luke Hochevar (5-0) pitched near flawlessly for seven innings, giving up just two hits to the Sounds (11-11) in an 8-0 thumping at Greer in game one of a twi-night doubleheader. The Royals went to 13-8 in the win.
The Royals took no time to put runs on the board in the first inning. After a lead-off single by Murphy, Hulett struck-out, then Chase Wright walked the next two batters. It was bases loaded with one out. Sheahy then hit a sac-fly to center. 1-0. Metcalf then hit an RBI single to right. 2-0. Wright then walked Lubanski and he paid for it. Irving Falu stepped up and doubled to right, scoring two more runs. 4-0.
Omaha struck again in the top of the 5th, eventually chasing Wright from the mound. Three singles, a double and a walk generated three more runs for the Royals who now led 7-0. Nashville’s Juan Sandoval relieved Wright to record the final out of the 5th.
Omaha scored their eighth run in the 7th inning on a sac-fly by Falu.The Sounds are 5-5 when allowing the opponent to score first. Combine that with this stat; the Sounds are 1-6 when outhit by their opponent.
Luke Hochevar (5-0) pitched brilliantly. Has a league-leading five victories.
Chase Wright (1-3) took the loss, working 4.2 innings, giving up six hits, seven runs (all earned), six walks and struck-out two. He was replaced by Juan Sandoval.
