Burns shuts out Royals in nightcap, 4-0

RHP Mike Burns for the Nashville Sounds

RHP Mike Burns (3-0) pitched seven complete scoreless innings in a 3-hit spectacle as the Sounds (12-11) won their second shut-out of the season, blanking the Omaha Royals 4-0 in the second game of the make-up double header. Burns walked just one and struck-out seven to preserve his perfect season so far.

The righthander shut down the Omaha batters who had just completed an 8-0 thrashing of the Sounds, in the first game, knocking out eight hits in seven innings. The Royal’s record now stands at 13-9.

Game summary

The Sounds struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Gamel got his 27th RBI on a one-out,  infield single to the pitcher, scoring Escobar, who had tripled. Erick Almonte – fresh off from being reactivated – hit an RBI-single to center scoring Katin.  2-0 Sounds.

The Sounds came back in the 2nd inning scoring a Gwynn sacrifice-fly, scoring Iribarren.  3-0 Sounds.

In the bottom of the sixth Nashville added their 4th run on an RBI-double by Hernan Iribarren, scoring Koshansky. Sounds 4-0.
