Sounds post 4th consecutive victory on road, sweep Zephyrs in 4-2 decision

April 20, 2009

The Nashville Sounds (7-5) have completed their first road series with a four game sweep of the New Orleans Zephyrs (4-8) in front of a crowd of 5,966 in attendance at Zephyr field. With a 4-0 away record that gives the Sounds the best away record in the Pacific Coast League. The 7-5 Nashville record is good enough to place the Sounds just one game behind the first-place Iowa Cubs (8-4) in the American North division of the PCL.

Sounds Baseball by you.

Nashville defeated the Zephyrs today in a 4-2 contest. The winning pitcher was Mike Burns (2-0).  Chris Smith notched his 2nd save of the early season. Sinkbeil (1-2) suffered his 2nd loss of the season.

The Sounds were down 1-0 after one inning but came from behind again in the 3rd inning with a bases loaded , two out pass-ball. Nashville scored two more runs in the 4th to go ahead 3-1.  Koshansky homered (2) and Jason Bourgeois scored on a sacrifice bunt by pitcher Mike Burns.

Both teams each scored one run in the 5th. The Sounds got their 4th run on Mat Gamel’s fourth long-ball of the season. The Zephrys scored their last run as De Aza scored after tripling, followed by a ground out RBI.

New Orleans loaded the bases in the 8th but could not get a run across.  One runner popped out and an inning-ending double-play ball extinguished the potential rally.

Burns (2-0) pitched seven innings, giving up six hits and 2 earned runs. Chris Smith worked two innings in relief, giving up two hits, no runs, and striking out one, while earning the save.

Jason Bourgeois had the hot bat today, going 3-4. Gamel and Koshanksy provided long ball power with solo HRs each.

The Sounds now travel to Memphis to take on the Redbirds in a four game series at AutoZone Park.
