Trevor Hoffman, reliever for the Milwaukee Brewers.

The projected starting pitcher for the Sounds tonight in their opener against the Memphis Redbirds will be Milwaukee Brewers closer Trevor Hoffman. Hoffman was signed to a one-year contract as a free agent in January with the Brewers after spending his previous career with the Padres. He is also scheduled to make a relief appearance Thursday.

Hoffman will be rehabbing during the Memphis series. He went on the 15-day DL just before the season started due to a strained right oblique. Hoffman is the Major League’s all-times save leader. Hoffman currently sits at 554 saves in the Majors. He is highly anticipated to be a future Hall-of-Famer.

The Brewers expect Hoffman – a six-time all-star – to be reactivated April 26th against the Astros. The star closer is not expected to pitch in any Sounds home games before he returns to the Brewers.
